Joburg mayor announces MMCs

Councillor Mfikoe returns as finance MMC after having served as an MMC for EISD.

The new City of Johannesburg mayor, councillor Jolidee Matongo, confirmed his 10 MMCs shortly after he was sworn in on August 11.

The new list of MMCs remained unchanged in the portfolios they were assigned by the late mayor, councillor Geoffrey Makhubo.

The choice of MMCs is in support of the implementation of the Government of Local Unity (GLU’s) priorities, which are aligned to the Joburg Growth and Development Strategy (GDS) 2040.

Spokesperson Mlimandlela Ndamase said only the portfolios of finance and economic development were assigned new MMCs to councillor Matshidiso Mfikoe and councillor Thomas Mofokeng, respectively.

“Councillor Mfikoe returns as Finance MMC after having served as an MMC for EISD under the former Johannesburg mayor, Parks Tau, pre-2016. Meanwhile, councillor Mofokeng replaces MMC Lawrence Khoza in the economic development portfolio.

“The Environment and Infrastructure Services Department’s MMC Mpho Moerane, Housing’s MMC Mlungisi Mabaso, Transport’s MMC Helen Makhuba and Health and Social Development’s MMC Eunice Mgcina remained unchanged,” he said.

Group Corporate Shared Services’ MMC Loyiso Masuku, Community Development’s MMC Margaret Arnolds, Development Planning’s MMC Thapelo Amad and Public Safety’s MMC Mally Mokoena also retained their portfolios.
