The launch of Lwazi Agripreneur Incubator

AWiA launched Lwazi Agripreneur Incubator and introduced 12 agriculture entrepreneurs.

African Women in Agriculture (AWiA) has finally launched the Lwazi Agriprenuer Incubator after they started their screening and interviewing process for candidates in December.

They have recruited 12 agriculture entrepreneurs between the ages of 18 and 35.

“All of them run small businesses in the agricultural sector,” said AWiA representative Agnes Hove.

She explained an agricultural incubator is a safe environment for agripreneurs to gain agricultural knowledge and experiment in a safe environment.

“They are agripreneurs who have already started agri-business. They grow and enhance their business and find opportunities to grow. The process will start with growing crops and then develop into agri-processors when they add value to the crops and create employment,” said Hove.

They started with a classroom-based induction in February, where the recruits were taught the basics of business.

“It has been an amazing experience having women who are driven, dynamic and motivated to do what they love. They understand the farming business and it has been great working with them.”

She said they also learn from them.

“Thank you Tim Abba for being amazing in terms of organic agriculture. The women were also taught about hydroponics by Thendo Ratshitanga,” said Hove.

Another group will partake in the same process in February.

“We teach young women to farm because a lot of them are not exposed to farming. They don’t think farming is something to consider. We are glad these women took this opportunity.”
