Break the silence on gender-based violence

"This is one of many events to say NO to Gender-based violence."

An event to raise awareness of gender-based violence was held on September 26 at Natureville Mountain, Naturena.

This event was organised by Naturena Youth Crime Prevention with Mondeor SAPS and Naturena Community Police Forum.

SAPS emphasised working together with communities to prevent violence against women and children and also reminded those who attended to make their voice heard by declaring publicly that enough is enough.

Some topics discussed during the event were:

• Challenges faced with the normalisation of violence against women and children.

• The challenges of gender stereotype and the condoning of violence against vulnerable groups.

• The challenges around sexist jokes and remarks about women.

• Once a domestic relationship is disrupted by acts of violence, other family members are negatively affected and the entire family suffers in terms of its functioning and stability.

In attendance was Mondeor SAPS, Naturena CPF, Department of Social Development, Department of Community Safety, Natureville Hiking Club, the local councillor and National Security.
