Successful La Rochelle Food Distribution

Local businesses helped contribute towards the food parcels.

The Alpha and Omega Catholic Church, with community leader Xoliswa Mfaxa, distributed food parcels to over 100 people who reside in the suburbs of La Rochelle and Rosettenville on September 19.

Ward 56 councillor Michael Crichton was also in attendance to support the event, and some of the attendees dressed in their traditional clothes and performed songs and dances to also acknowledge the Heritage Day.

Crichton said: “I feel incredibly privileged to have been able to attend this wonderful event. The Alpha and Omega Church, as well as Xoliswa, always go out of their way to assist the community as they have both been distributing food parcels since level five.

“The lockdown has been hard on many of my residents, with some being unable to work or run their businesses, leaving them unable to feed their families.

“With there being a huge demand for food parcels, Social Development has been unable to get to everyone, so these private partnerships are most welcome. A big thank you to everyone involved in setting this up.”
