Hlumisa Community Development helped the community of EmaXhoseni informal settlement with mattresses, blankets and groceries on August 19. The shacks of this community were destroyed by a fire on August 1 and they lost everything in the fire. Ward 124 councillor Mnyameni Mongameli said, “Progressive community development NGOs like Hlumisa always come on board when people need them. Thanks again to all who have made it possible for our people of EmaXhoseni informal settlement get food, mattresses and blankets.
“Also, people from Booysens informal settlement were given food parcels by one of our good Samaritans. Thanks to volunteers who came out in numbers, as well as Cde Ayabonga for the great work,” he said.
Nancy Sangqu from Hlumisa Community Development said they heard about the burnt shacks from a community WhatsApp group, which was requesting citizens to help with whatever they had to assist the affected families.
“Hlumisa Community Development is all about community development and helping the less fortunate, where we can. We donated mattresses, blankets and groceries,” she said.
