Alberton Toastmasters moves meetings online

Meeting online is different from face-to-face engagements, of course, but more people can now join the meetings in the comfort of their homes.

In keeping with the new normal, Alberton Toastmasters Club (ATMC) has moved its meetings online.

The club, which used to meet at the Alberton Retirement Village, now meets on virtual platform Zoom on the first and third Thursday of the month at 7pm.

ATMC is an affiliate of Toastmasters International, an NPO that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs.

The organisation offers its members an individually tailored educational programme that provides diverse skills that range from public speaking and Powerpoint presentations to leadership skills, among others.  The club’s vice-president of public relations, Vuyo Sabani, said the organisation could not hold off as nobody knows when life will return to normal.

“We had to adapt. The service we provide to our members is too valuable and important, and besides, online meetings have its own benefits,” said Sabani.

“Meeting online is different from face-to-face engagements, of course, but more people can now join the meetings in the comfort of their homes. “Winter evenings can be cold and unbearable when meeting in a venue; however, with Zoom that is not an issue. We can have club members who have relocated from Gauteng join meetings online wherever they are in the world,” added Sabani.

The club accepts guests with no obligation to join. If you would like to visit one of the club’s Zoom meetings contact vice-president for membership Joel Motaung on 082 781 2479.
