CTU, DJ Fresh donate winter clothes and blankets to Nkosi’s Haven

DJ Fresh took to Twitter to implore his followers to assist with donations of any kind, after finding out that Nkosi’s Haven was damaged by a fire.

This year in the spirit of Madiba Day, the Commuter Transport Industry (CTU) team answered a call for help by DJ Fresh to assist the Nkosi’s Haven as a part of the village had succumbed to terrible fires.

On May 27, one of the cottages at Nkosi’s Haven caught alight when a blanket was accidentally left hanging too close to a heater.

Gail Johnson, director of Nkosi’s Haven told the CHRONICLE that just about everything in that cottage went up in flames on that day.

Nkosi’s Haven is an NGO in Johannesburg that offers residential, holistic care and support for mothers and their children, as well as orphans whose lives have been impacted by HIV/Aids. Nkosi’s Haven was named after Nkosi Johnson, who was one of the early voices to advocate for HIV/Aids awareness in South Africa.

His passing at the age of 12 shook the world and gave a face to the pandemic, which had first taken his own parents.
The orphanage was specifically created for children who have lost their parents due to the virus, or abandoned children who have the virus.

DJ Fresh was one of the popular media personalities that used his voice for good on June 9, asking people to make donations of any kind to Nkosi’s Haven.

The 947 personality shared screenshot images of the fire that broke out at the children’s home, captioning it, “Please, let’s assist where possible! Even if just one blanket!”

The CTU team, in conjunction with DJ Fresh, supplied the 107 children of the home with warm winter clothes and blankets.

Specialist insurance underwriting manager for CTU, together with DJ Fresh, visited the brave children of Nkosi’s Haven on July 10 to gift them with some cosy pyjamas to help them keep the cold weather at bay this chilly winter.
