UPDATE: Covid-19 case at Springbok Pharmacy investigated by MMC

According to the MMC, the visit was necessitated after reports from the ground indicated that there was an alleged case of coronavirus at the pharmacy.

The MMC for Community Safety, Frans Mmoko, officials from the Department of Health and EMPD officers entered the offices of Springbok Pharmacy on May 15 to discuss the protocols taken after a confirmed case of Covid-19 among the staff of the pharmacy.

According to the MMC, the visit was necessitated after reports from the ground indicated that there was an alleged case of coronavirus at the pharmacy and that the staff reported feeling unsafe as nothing was being done.

The Department of Health officials requested the management of the pharmacy to provide reports on the protocols taken following the discovery of the sick individual, to which they agreed.

“What we found to be a serious gap was that the people want to do something alone outside the authority,” said Mmoko.

He said that they want to urge everyone who comes across a case of Covid-19 to contact the department to ensure that all the correct protocols are followed.

According to the MMC, the agreement that was reached between them and Springbok Pharmacy is that the pharmacy would remain open on May 15 to be able to serve customers with the chronic medication that they need.

Over the following two days, Saturday and Sunday, the pharmacy will then test all staff members for the coronavirus.

“Test them, this is what they did not do,” said the MMC. They further requested that the results be shared with the health officials. “Collaboration is what we are asking for,” said Mmoke.

He said that it is not proper that they should be notified via social media rather than by their own department. He went on to warn that anyone hiding cases of Covid-19 will be acted against
