WATCH: Cash-in-Transit robbery at Ormonde Shopping Centre

A case has been opened at the Booysens Police Station who is busy with the investigation.

A Cash-in-Transit (CIT) robbery took place at Ormonde Shopping Centre in 18 Crownwoord Road on May 14 at approximately 9.15am.

Five armed suspects targeted the staff of a CIT company who came to replenish the FNB ATM at the shopping centre.
A shootout between a SUPERSPAR employee and the suspects ensued after they relieved the CIT guard of an undisclosed amount of money. The employee took a bullet in his foot before the suspects fled the scene.

“The employee was rushed to a nearby hospital,” said George Smith, the chief operations officer from Ormonde Shopping Centre.

According to him a lot of damage was done during the shootout, mostly broken windows.

“As the owners of Ormonde Shopping Centre we would like to make it known that the safety of our tenants and the safety of our shoppers are of utmost importance. “We have reviewed our security protocol and have increased our security and put new security measures in place, which will help in protecting our tenants and shoppers,” Smith concluded.
