South Hills unit in disrepair

Booysens said they have been battling with this problem since 2015 and all he wants now is to see the nightmare ending.

Frustrated and fed-up South Hills resident Clyde Booysens wants to see his unit in a better state.

The 48-year-old resident demands a permanent solution with regards to water leaks which keeps on spoiling the walls of his unit.

Booysens said this is the result of a burst pipe outside the unit and the water seeps inside the unit to destroy clothes, furniture, walls and other stuff.

The water isn’t only affecting their belongings, but is creating a health hazard.

Booysens told the COURIER the smell inside his unit is so unbearable, you can’t even sleep.

“The smell is out of this world. I have never smelt something like this before.

“Our children are getting sick now and again. I tried deploying private plumbers to help me with this mess, but it continues because the councillor comes and inspect but nothing is being done to fix this horror,” said Booysens.

The bathroom has leaking taps, the ceiling in the entire unit is damaged and kitchen walls are cracked.

“We cannot even make use of toilets properly because of this mess. All I want is to see my unit fixed and looking good, like other units,” said Booysens.

Booysens said they have been battling with this problem since 2015 and all he wants now is to see the nightmare ending.

Councillor Feaaze Chame said sewerage falls under Joburg Water.

“But if it is in your yard you are responsible to log a call with your private plumber. If it falls within the municipality area, for example, on the pavement or in the street, Council is responsible for it,” said Chame.

Clyde Booysens wants to see an end to the burst pipe damaging his unit.
