Any passengers who felt unwell were asked to stand in another line to be tested.

Left Joburg last night, March 25 to begin our new adventure and I have to say it was strict at the airport.

Nowhere nearly as many people or passengers about and the usual safety issues were being adhered to going through booking in then passport control.

We arrived at Duty-Free at 6.02 pm and were told we couldn’t buy anything! Quite upset but rules are rules and no alcohol is allowed to be sold after 6 pm.

Loads of passengers wore masks or scarves and some seemed extremely uncomfortable having to be sitting in such close proximity to their fellow passengers.

The plane was fully booked, four passengers hadn’t turned up for the flight, but there were many people wanting to leave on standby, so by the time they’d gone through everything and their luggage boarded we were an hour late leaving.

We flew BA and had been informed there would be limited refreshments and no alcohol on board.

Most passengers were fine with their hard cheese roll, cheese biscuits, water, and a Kit Kat but some others were not impressed.

The flight was okay. Aircrew came through the plane twice, spraying some kind of antibacterial liquid and they were really helpful.

We landed at Heathrow Airport at 5.40 am to a freezing 1c although the sun was coming up.

I was so shocked as we came off the plane and into the airport! Lots less staff and an eerie feel as the few passengers were keeping as far away from each other as possible.

No coffee shops or restaurants were open. I went to the newsagent WH Smith with a twenty-pound note and was told no cash being taken, only cards.

We went into Boots (similar to our Clicks) and thankfully they took cash, but apparently only for the next few hours, and managed to buy cool drinks and sandwiches.

Waiting to board our next flight now and Gate A is empty! Absolutely surreal!
