Siyabonga Nodu, acting managing director at JRA, said the continuous monitoring of the situation will be undertaken until full permanent rehabilitation is concluded.

THE Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) undertook in their media statement that their internal maintenance team would put in place holding measures on the M1 South Bridge at the Booysens off ramp.

The JRA’s internal maintenance team has been working since December 26 to 29, putting in place interim measures as per their communication to the public. The JRA said it remained committed to providing well maintained and safe bridge infrastructure for all the road users.

The following holding measures have been put in place by the JRA’s internal maintenance team:

• Unblocking of drain channels.

• Cleaning of stormwater drains.

• The hole caused by the erosion in the embankment has been backfilled with sand.

• Re-paving of the area with paving blocks on both sides of the embankment has been undertaken

• The concrete stormwater gutters conveying water under the bridge has been reinstated.

Siyabonga Nodu, acting managing director at JRA, said the continuous monitoring of the situation will be undertaken until full permanent rehabilitation is concluded.

“The JRA would like to assure road users that the safety of roads and bridges remains JRA’s top priority. We thank all roads users for their patience and cooperation during the implementation of the interim measures,” he said.
