UNDENIABLY the South has seen some hard times, but recently a few like-minded businessmen and women who have lived in the South for many years have come together to create a space for not only business means, but also for the good of the local community.

Brad Harding and Tracey Pretorius have recently opened Southern Sports Educentre, which is situated at the bottom end of Short Street, Rosettenville Ext, with safe parking facilities.

“We are extremely excited to share this news with our community and have a sustainable plan, having put our own personal capital into this project, being supported by a number of families in the community who have donated capital and sporting supplies,” they said.

This disused property which belonged to Joburg City is now an amazing new venue and community hub which houses a restaurant, a conference facility and sports and leisure facilities.

The modern conference facility can also accommodate special events, including engagement parties, weddings and christenings as well as birthday parties for adults and children. It can host 130 guests, with the overall facility taking 250.

Great food and service

The Clubhouse Grill serves delicious food and offers some very good South African wines to pair with it.

The restaurant is in a safe and child-friendly setting. This is the ideal place to come and enjoy some quality time with family and friends.

“With the opening of the restaurant, we have been able to create employment for 13 people, most of who were unemployed before, and give them a good start in a career.”

Every weekend there will be live entertainment and while you enjoy a great vibe relaxing over a meal on the patio or in the restaurant, the children can have fun in the gardens with activities to keep them entertained.

Free community workshops

The facility will also be offering free community life skills workshops, with the first one being held on October 15 and 16 for matriculants.

These teens will be shown how to write a CV, how to dress for interviews and to conduct themselves in a professional manner at an interview as well as coaching on body language and interview technique.

“This will assist greatly in boosting their confidence and give them a chance of making it in the real world,” added Brad and Tracey.

“We will be hosting workshops once a month for the good of the community, which will be run by an HR team of volunteers from the Smollan Group who have offered to give of their time and expertise,” they added.

If you have a child who is presently a matriculant phone Kathy or Chanell on 011 435 1114 for further information.

Sports facilities

Southern Sports Educentre will be offering five-a-side football and cricket coaching with an aim to reach youngsters in the community, getting them off the street and providing them with fun facilities.

They will also be able to facilitate access to squash and boxing, as well as dancing lessons on the adjoining premises.

Sponsors sought

“In order for us to further provide such amazing facilities within this community hub, we welcome businessmen and women who are interested in making the South a great place for future generations,” concluded Tracey and Brad.
