[GALLERY + VIDEOS]: Angry protesters barricade Hay Street in Turffontein

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes.

Turffontein residents took their frustrations to the streets on Monday morning, September 2 to block roads with burning tyres.

According to residents, the reason for them to protest is that they want foreign nationals to leave the country, claiming they take the little work they have.

According to Ward 56 Councillor Michael Crichton, I was just in Turffontein and can confirm that its a real mess at the moment. Lots of streets are barricaded off with rocks and burning rubble.
There’s rumors that the protestors will move to Main street, Rosettenville between 12 pm and 3 pm, added Michael Crichton

Turffontein locals can be seen looting a shop while protests over foreign nationals continue.
