De Freitas Foundation hosts another successful Christmas in July fund-raiser

The main DFF annual fund-raiser for 2019 is scheduled to take place on November 3.

FOR the fifth time a successful annual Christmas in July breakfast fund-raiser, hosted by the De Freitas Foundation (DFF), was held on July 27.

This year the event was held at Pizza Del Forno in the Park Meadows Shopping Centre in Bedfordview.

The venue was packed to capacity. Over 150 ladies not only supported the fun-filled event, but also brought toiletries upon arrival to the event. The donated toiletries will be distributed to the underprivileged who need these items the most.

When addressing all present at the fund-raiser, DFF founder and board member Manny de Freitas stated that the work of the foundation now has three projects:

• Advocating and educating the public about alternative cancer solutions,

• Assisting those most marginalised and forgotten in society particularly within the Portuguese community and

• Providing Portuguese lessons led by a qualified teacher.

“Thanks to the generosity of the public we surpassed our main goal for 2018: to feed at least 100 families for a month. We achieved this by raising enough for 100 hampers,” de Freitas announced. He said that poverty is rife and is sometimes found in places one expects the least.

He also announced that the DFF has in the past year also assisted the Portuguese churches in Mayfair and in Benoni, continues to support an orphanage in Boksburg and a women’s place of refuge in Judith’s Paarl, as well as the LusoAfrica Seniors’ Day Care Centre and the St Vincent de Paul organisation.

De Freitas concluded that this now-popular fund-raiser has become a great awareness activity for the foundation and its activities.
