Eikenhof Women’s Institute hears all about Amcare

There are various ways you can help Amcare.

EIKENHOF Women’s Institute (WI) group met on July 10 and learnt all about the non-profit organisation Amcare and how it works.

Nadene Mason, marketing and fund-raising manager of Amcare, chatted to the women, explaining the organisation.

“On our own, we can do so little, but together, so much. Amcare is dedicated to the needs of all people who are made vulnerable due to poverty, HIV/Aids, domestic violence and advanced age. Our mission is to holistically improve lives in our community,” Nadene said.

Amcare is broken down into different services, namely social work, HIV care and relief, elderly care and relief, and skills development.

With the social work services, the victim-empowerment centre is geared towards the protection of victims of domestic violence and their children and assists with protection and legal assistance, psycho-social support and counselling, skills training and job support for victims of domestic violence.

The HIV/Aids programme helps with the awareness, education, support and care of adults affected by HIV/Aids. In addition, they run an OVC programme for children affected/infected by HIV/Aids.

The programme for the elderly focuses on rendering services to all individuals above the age of 60 needing care and support.

Amcare’s catering kitchen offers a four-week training programme in catering at a minimal registration and facilitation fee and also offers catering services to individuals and corporates.

There are various ways you can help Amcare. You can volunteer your time or talent, or donate towards a project, food relief and thrift shop. You can also help financially by making a cash donation or an EFT donation to: Absa Bank, cheque account, account number 4054832338, branch number 631142.

Amcare’s vision

“In five to 10 years from now, Amcare will be a sustainable organisation, well-known in the community, focused on empowering and supporting those that knock on our doors with hope, knowledge, counselling and skills training, which in turn will better the lives of the communities we serve,” said Nadene.
