Abbotts College stand up against bullying

ON July 17, Abbotts College held an anti-bullying campaign hosted by Michelle Pelser, head of the Mondeor CPF.

Guest speakers included Linda Reeder from Fidelity ADT and Const Elizabeth Mnguni from Mondeor SAPS.

Linda Reeder spoke about different kinds of bullying and pointed out the signs of bullying, asking each learner if they could see these signs within themselves.

She asked them to eradicate this behaviour and to stand up against those who bully others.

Linda also spoke about the negative consequences of being bullied, many bullies often don’t realise the extent they break down those around them, often making the other person feel so worthless that he or she may take their own life.

She pleaded with those who have become victims of bullies to speak out and reach out for help.

Linda challenged the learners to be there for their own parents, who may be in jobs where they themselves may be bullied.

She pointed out that anyone can be bullied at any stage of life, and that we should always be there for those who struggle and not become bullies ourselves.

Linda spoke to both the bullies and the learners who have fallen victim to being bullied, pointing out that both are in equal need of help and pleaded with the bully to also reach out for help.

She also urged learners to think carefully before experimenting with alcohol, sex, and drugs.

“The memories you build today defines who you become later in life,” she told the learners. “It is critical that you make the right choices now. Think about how you are writing your life story.”

Elizabeth engaged with the learners on the consequences of alcohol and drug abuse.

She urged them to think these consequences through, saying how life-changing they can be, and how experimenting with drugs and alcohol can lead to mistakes and accidents that can be impossible to undo.

Michelle thanked Abbotts College, Elizabeth, and Linda for the opportunity to educate the learners on bullying and drug and alcohol abuse.
