The mayor mentioned that the recruitment of 1 500 police officers is the City’s biggest investment and they will be graduating on November 6.
ON July 17, executive mayor Clr Herman Mashaba visited some of the 1 500 JMPD trainees before they graduate later this year.
He joined over 800 of the 1 500 JMPD recruits that will soon graduate to become fully qualified officers of the law.
The mayor was led by MMC for Public Safety Clr Michael Sun, as well as the acting head of Public Safety, David Tembe, as they inspected both a parade at the JMPD training academy in Selby as well as a roadblock conducted by the recruits in Kliprivier Drive.

“The police are very crucial in our country. I hope you are ready to play that role.
“As you will be qualifying at the end of October, you will take the opportunity to be out there on our streets doing a very difficult job.
“This is not an easy job, it’s not someone running a machine in a factory. It’s a 24-hour job where you are required to protect society, you are required to show that you can create a city that can attract investments so that your sister, your cousin, your neighbour can one day get an employment opportunity,” explained Mashaba.
