Alberton and Johannesburg South Business Forum presents Maximize Your Potential by Dr Kobus Neethling.

ON July 10, the Alberton and Johannesburg South Business Forum presented Maximize Your Potential by Dr Kobus Neethling at the Sha-Mani Lodge and Conference Venue.

It was a well-attended morning by many small business owners from Alberton and Johannesburg South. Co-speakers included Roela Beukes (chairperson of the Alberton and Johannesburg Business Forum and business owner of Clutterbug), Greg Brits (investment and risk manager at Jurgens Group), Tersia Burger (CEO of Stepping Stone Hospice) and Tania Steyn (a certified body language trainer from the Art of People).

Co-speakers

Brits gave a short presentation on understanding wealth management, short-term insurance, life insurance, medical aids and provident funds.

Beukes gave an insightful talk on what her business does – decluttering people’s lives and homes and bringing in organisation, from garages to life files – where all your personal information, including wills and testaments, are filed and put in order.

Burger spoke about the wonderful work her organisation does for all patients with life-limiting illnesses. She also shared the hardship of keeping afloat with minimal funds and ended her presentation by saying: “Without the support of our community, we could never survive.”

Steyn spoke about non-verbal communication and how powerful it can be, and the huge influence it has on those with whom we communicate.

Creative Brain Training

Dr Kobus Neethling, president of the South African Creativity Foundation, spoke about the importance of creativity. Creativity is strongly linked to how we think.

He developed the largest collection of whole brain instruments in the world. He holds six degrees, including two masters, a doctorate and post-doctorate (cum laude), in the identification and development of creative behaviour (Universities of Cape Town and Georgia-USA).

Neethling has made extensive efforts to make creativity and whole-brain thinking accessible to everyone. He has summed up his findings across more than 90 books.

He explained that successful creative people had the following three qualities:

Passion: Energy comes from passion.

Essence: The importance of understanding the essence in order to find the right solution to a problem.

Courage: Courage is critical in changing your life for the better.

“Understand courage and fear and realise that there is no fear that you cannot conquer,” he said.

He reiterated that the brain and thinking is the beginning and the end of everything, and that, in order to be successful in life, we need to get rid of negativity.

Neethling ended his presentation by saying we are often not sensitive enough to others in our lives, to never underestimate our influence on those around us. What we say and how we deal with others say a great a deal about who we are ourselves and our own thinking.

Beukes thanked the guests, Sha-Mani Lodge and Conference Venue, the press and all the sponsors who contributed prizes for the lucky draws. A wonderful breakfast was served and all who attended networked comfortably.
