PRITT glue stick, which has been part of many South Africans’ childhoods celebrated 50 years on June 20.

To celebrate their existence, Alberton’s very own Henkel, situated in Alrode, hosted the We Craft for Children event, having participants from Henkel’s employees, stakeholders and its customers.

They partnered with Save the Children South Africa (STCSA), a non-government organisations (NGO) that is uniquely placed to work as catalysts for transforming the lives of children.

We Craft for Children is a global initiative at Henkel that aims at raising funds to support NGOs which focus on childhood development and education. All Henkel employees from 10 major Pritt countries were given a chance to go back to their childhood by crafting figurines representing what they wanted to be as a child. The three most actively participating countries will be selected to receive a donation for their chosen local organisation supporting children’s development.

Participants and children from STCSA were given a chance to express their dreams by sketching them out in colours and crafting them in detail. The thrilling event had those that attended crafting figurines of firemen, doctors, astronauts, singers and more.

Pritt plays a role

In 1969, Henkel invented the world’s first glue stick after studying the “twist-up ease” and convenience of lipstick applicators and launched the Pritt brand. Since then, Pritt has become a household name around the world. In South Africa, it is a trusted partner of teachers and children throughout the country.

Pritt’s vision is to support the motor and cognitive development of children through creative crafting. They believe imagination and handcrafting are important for a child’s development. Pritt has been trusted and used by generations in classrooms, workplaces and for personal use.
