Cable theft on the rise

Two more incidents of severe cable theft and further outages in Glenvista and Mulbarton.

There were two severe incidents of cable theft last week and over the weekend.

In the first incident, 400m of cables were stolen in the vicinity of Mall of the South. Traffic and street lights were affected, causing heavy traffic delays and dangers for drivers in the area.

The intersection at Swartkoppies Road and Kliprivier Drive is very busy and notorious for accidents. Residents were also affected and frustrated with the power outage.

The city promptly responded to start immediate repairs.

The second incident occurred on Saturday when approximately 6m of cable were stolen on the corner of Bellairs and Kliprivier drives.

Another power outage occurred at approximately 2.30am this morning (Monday) in Glenvista and areas affected include parts of Mulbarton as well. The reason for the outage has not yet been confirmed, but technicians were on site.

Councillor Sarah Wissler informed the CHRONICLE that the Mulbarton feeder link tripped and the line is being tested before restoring.

The CHRONICLE is unable to confirm if power has been fully restored in all the above-mentioned areas and will update as soon as more information becomes available.
