FLOURISH antenatal classes are set to start on April 13 at Crown Gardens Recreation Centre, TV room.
The classes will be hosted by Nodumo Makaza, a newly licensed flourish franchisee.
Flourish is a national social franchise supported by the Grow Great campaign, a campaign committed to helping babies and young children grow to their full potential. The first 1 000 days of life (from conception to a child’s second birthday) play a vital role in shaping a child.
Children who receive enough love, food and stimulation during this period of life tend to do better at school and get better jobs as a result. But often parents do not get enough support and information when they are pregnant or when the baby is very young. Flourish seeks to fill this gap by offering antenatal and post-natal support through community-based groups.
Flourish classes are a non-judgmental space where women come together to support each other through their pregnancy journey. The flourish journey is a journey of companionship, belonging and acceptance. It’s an opportunity to love, play, cry, laugh and forge the future we want for our children.
The journey is made up of 10 weekly visits with a group of 10 moms to be. The visits cover a range of material and child health topics as well as self-care and self-nurturing tips and techniques.
Flourish visits are open to every pregnant woman and they are R30 per visit (doesn’t mean if you cannot afford you cannot attend).
