Turning Point to empower women

"Embrace your trauma, don’t be afraid of it. Learn how to turn it into something great."

A NEW foundation called Turning Point was launched at Rietvlei Zoo Farm’s Butterfly Hall on March 16. It was an afternoon of feminine company, lunch, drinks, snacks and inspiring advice and testimonies.

The Butterfly Hall was beautifully decorated and filled to capacity with attendees who were eager to find out more about the new Turning Point Foundation. This event also happened to be a birthday celebration for Dr Anneline Chetty, the founder of Turning Point.

On this day, various speakers, including Anneline herself, had a chance to inspire, motivate and uplift the attendees, most of whom were women.

About Turning Point

Anneline founded Turning Point after she conquered her own journey with emotional trauma and depression that started in 2014. Today, she is the founder of this new cause, as well as the chief operations officer of the National Department of Trade and Industry, which focuses on job creation and reducing unemployment.

After finally making the hard decision of getting out of her comfort zone and trying to be a better version of herself than she was five years ago, she ended up with the Mrs Commonwealth SA 2018 and Standard Bank Top Woman in Public Sector titles, as well as winning the Women of Excellence Award at the Women’s Economic Forum (WEF) in New Delhi, India, last year.

According to a press release sent to CHRONICLE by Epic Foundation on behalf of Turning Point, below follows more information about Anneline’s new cause.

MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER: Debbie de Jager was one of the event’s motivational speakers.

“Turning Point aims to help women overcome past trauma (such as divorce, terminal illness, abuse, depression or losing a loved one) and promote emotional growth and restoration in an emotionally supportive environment.

“Women get the opportunity to address past trauma, repair and grow emotionally in a supportive environment, and are encouraged to become self-reliant in order to make informed decisions about their choices, evaluate their choices, and take responsibility for their choices.

“Hopefully, this will lead to these women improving their communication and problem-solving skills, gaining assertiveness, improving their self-esteem, self-trust and trust in others, increase their self-awareness and understanding of their interpersonal relationships, and empower them with skills to be independent and look after themselves financially.

“Turning Point equips women with skills they didn’t know they had, allowing them to become fearless, confident, ambassadorial and entrepreneurial. It provides a platform to empower other women to accomplish more and achieve more, ultimately becoming the best version of themselves.”

A message to all women

Some words of inspiration from Anneline: “We all go through hardships and need a turning point at some point in our lives – just like Einstein, Walt Disney, Oprah, JK Rowling and many other people who are proof that life is what we make of it.

“We all need to discover our true purpose. Embrace your trauma, don’t be afraid of it. Learn how to turn it into something great. Think ‘possibility’,” she said.
