GALLERY: Prestige Athletics 2019 highlights

Germiston Stadium hosts hundreds of athletes from Alberton in their annual Prestige Athletics meet.

GERMISTON Stadium once again played host to a competitive and eventful athletics event recently, which saw four Alberton high schools going for gold in various sporting codes.

Alberton High School hosted the 2019 edition of the Prestige Athletics meet with Hoërskool Alberton, Hoërskool Dinamika and Hoërskool Fochville all contributing to the success of the day’s event.

Hoërskool Alberton took first place, followed by Hoërskool Fochville, Hoërskool Dinamika in third place and Alberton High placing fourth.

Adding to the live entertainment, the school’s cheerleading teams each took centre field to perform their best cheer songs.

A total of approximately 130 athletes from Alberton High participated in this year’s meet.

The school’s track and field team clinched a total of 17 first place positions, 24 second places and 23 third places and the 4x100m relay teams managed to secure a top three placing in eight of the 10 age group events.

A total of 20 records were equalled or set on the day, bearing testament to the quality of athletics that was on display throughout the meet.

Trophies were awarded to the following top individual performing athletes on the day:

Juniors:

• Hoërskool Dinmaika – Best junior track athlete for boys: Grant Coetzee (u-15) 100m hurdles

• Hoërskool Dinamika – Best junior field athlete for boys: Grant Coetzee (u-15) long jump

• Hoërskool Dinamika – Best junior track athlete for girls: Sianne Mileham (u-15) 100m

• Hoërskool Dinamika – Best junior field athlete for girls: Pheletso Masila (u-14) high jump

Seniors:

• Hoërskool Dinamika – Best senior track athlete for boys: Ethan van Wyk (u-16) 200m

• Hoërskool Alberton – Best senior field athlete for boys: Damien Hall (u-17) high jump

• Hoërskool Alberton – Best senior track athlete for girls: Danielle Rabie (u-19) 3 000m

• Hoërskool Alberton – Best senior field athlete for girls: Riani van der Hoven (u-17) long jump
