MARC Pritzen winner of Ride for Sight

Marc Pritzen wins Ride for Sigh race.

MARC Pritzen, hot off his win in the South African road championship in the u-23 category, recently won the Dis-Chem Ride for Sight in an excellent time of 2:28:17 in Boksburg.

Ryan Harris was second with Calvin Beneke third. First lady was Michelle Benson, second was Linda Fouche with Desray Foyn in third place.

Some 5 000 cyclists participated over the two distances of 62km and 116km. The main race is a seeding event for The Cape Town Cycle Tour and remains a popular event due to the excellent organisation and support of both the naming sponsor Dis-Chem Pharmacies and the host City of Ekurhuleni.

The event, now in its 31st year, has raised over R10-million towards finding treatments for inherited retinal blindness. The race is organised by Retina South Africa and representatives of community groups.

nts of Springbok informal settlement help themselves to donated clothes.

RESIDENTS of Springbok informal settlement received food and clothes from Ward 57 councillor Faeeza Chame on February 9.

The idea behind her reaching out to residents of Springbok was to help alleviate the poverty residents face in the settlement.

Residents were showered with mealiemeal, oil, toiletries and clothes. Chame was all smiles as residents showed their appreciation for her donations. She told the COURIER that being able to feed and clothe people puts her at ease.

“Most of the households don’t have a stable income. Also, some single mothers put food on the table and buy clothes with the little they have, so an extra hand really goes a long way,” said Chame.

The councillor had asked for donations from other residents in her ward to lend a hand with feeding the Springbok community.

“The response from donors was overwhelming. Lots of volunteers came forward to assist with the distribution of clothing. I would like to thank all those who made this day possible,” she added.

The councillor pleaded with members of the public to donate any clothes to residents of Springbok.
