Motorists fear trees falling over on Comaro Street

“There are a couple which are bent right over and look like they could fall over at any minute."

TREES growing in the centre island of Comaro Street, Bassonia, seen as you drive up or down the steep section of the road, are in need of a good pruning.

After heavy rains and storms recently experienced, some of the trees are hanging over into the road with some looking in danger of toppling over.

On February 5, a tree came down into the road after a storm which brought heavy rain. Fortunately no one suffered any injuries.

“There are a couple which are bent right over and look like they could fall over at any minute. There are also thorn trees which have grown into the side of the road as you travel down towards Comaro View Shopping Centre,” said a motorist.

“When it’s peak-hour traffic and both lanes are being used by motorists coming down Comaro Street from the N12 highway, they are forced to drive close to the centre island or kerb, risking having their vehicles damaged by the trees,” said a motorist.

On January 23, 2016, in the early evening, a huge tree fell over from the central island, which blocked the road. JMPD and City Parks were contacted, but because of a storm and heavy rain no-one was available to come out to assist. CPF members were on the scene immediately and cut up the tree with a chainsaw, removing it as quickly as possible. Ward 23 councillor Sarah Wissler is aware of the problem and City Parks have been asked for comment.
