Nelie Olivier has a heart for those who cannot fight for themselves

“Although charity is great, this alone does not relieve pain but empowerment can, through helping people to take back their self-worth.”

SOUTHERN resident, Nelie Olivier, founder and group managing director of I Am Not a Mistake Foundation, (IANAM) and its 12 sub-foundations, recently helped an elderly resident after she lost money which was to pay off her home bond.

Through her empathy and care, especially for children and the elderly, Nelie said she believes strongly in empowerment.

“Although charity is great, this alone does not relieve pain but empowerment can, through helping people to take back their self-worth.”

After investigating incidents involving child paedophilia, child trafficking, sexual abuse and/or life-threatening neglect of children and the elderly, Nelie says there are far more of these atrocities going on out there than the normal person in the street can even begin to know about.

“People don’t know what pain is until you’ve seen or heard what I have. A three-year-old girl swollen and bleeding after being raped by grown men; a 13-year-old child who committed suicide because of not knowing how to escape abuse. Many of us are led to believe these are rare happenings, but not so,” added Nelie.

“If we all stand together and stop turning our backs on our elderly people who helped to build this country, and our children who are raped, we can do something to assist in alleviating their pain.

“Whether it’s with money, services or other resources, I Am Not a Mistake, especially the Nelri Hope Foundation, can help those in need. There are people and organisations in our community who have ample money to spare. Invest it in Nelri Hope Foundation division and make a difference,” she said.
