JSPCA urges pet owners to take care of their pets

Public urged to take care of their pets.

THE festive season has seen an increase of pets coming into Johannesburg SPCA (JSPCA) in Booysens because of negligence.

A number of animals were found running scared or abandoned and ended up at the JSPCA.

Liana Marx, public relations officer for JSPCA feels that fireworks played a pivotal role in the inflow of pets brought in. Some of the pets that were brought in were injured, ill-treated and abused.

What bothers SPCA even more is that some people didn’t care to seek for their pets while knowing they are missing.

Marx said: “Many people went on holiday but didn’t book a boarding kennel to accommodate their pets, thus the animal is simply donated to us as unwanted. We urge the public to please make boarding accommodation at the JHB SPCA for when they go on holiday. Please put your pets inside the house when fireworks are being set off and if your animal goes missing contact all your local SPCA’s and look for your pets. Many animals are never recovered because many owners either don’t look for them or they don’t know where to look for them.”

SPCA advises the public to microchip their pets to increase chances of finding their beloved pets in time.
