AS Christmas season has settled in nicely, Picodi.com’s* analysis teams made a report about how South Africans, as well as other nations, prepare for Christmas this year. According to their surveys, among 13 000 people globally, they shared some very interesting findings.

SPENDING-FACTS FROM AROUND THE GLOBE: The Czech Republic spends the most money over the Christmas season, at $527 (approximately R7 500) in total on gifts, food and new outfits. Turkey spends the least, at $95 (approximately R1 300) in total. Czech spends the most on gifts at $307 (approximately R4 400). Spain spends the most on food at $206 (approximately R2 900). The United Kingdom spends the most on outfits at $123 (approximately R1 700).CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS DAY AND THE FOOD: Most South Africans (86 per cent) spend Christmas at home, while 14 per cent spends it at a friend’s house. The average South African spends R1 614 on Christmas food. Seventy-one per cent of South Africans buy their Christmas food at the shops, while 29 per cent buy their food both at stores and online.WORST GIFTS TO BUY: The least desirable gifts to give to others include sweets (48 per cent), toys (43 per cent), alcohol (33 per cent) and Christmas cards (29 per cent).BEST GIFTS TO BUY: The most desirable gifts to give to others include jewellery (48 per cent), money (43 per cent), clothes (43 per cent) and perfume (43 per cent).
