Be active after retirement

Some of the activities include painting, astronomy, ballroom dancing, chess, bingo, bridge, line dancing, photography, a movie club, scrabble, opera and languages.

JERRY Golding, who recently moved to Rosettenville, belongs to the University of the Third Age (U3A). He wants to recruit any retirees to join him at the Southern Suburbs Sports and Recreation Centre.

U3A consists of groups of people who come together to share knowledge, skills and experience in an informal association of their own design. Small groups of members congregate in private homes to study and discuss a particular subject under the guidance of a course leader. Workshops, group outings and general meetings are also popular. Membership is open to all, irrespective of race, religion, politics or economic circumstances.

The organisation aims to serve those no longer in full-time employment – hence the ‘third age’ in the title.

He has secured a hall, thanks to Ward 56 Clr Michael Crichton.

“I want all interested retirees who want to join to contact me and continue with the good work I was doing in the North. There will be plenty of activities to be rendered.

“I also invite volunteers to run any of the disciplines. I have a few people lined up for this, so I’m pleading with the community to come and support this initiative,” he said.

Some of the activities include painting, astronomy, ballroom dancing, chess, bingo, bridge, line dancing, photography, a movie club, scrabble, opera and languages.
