GUW Women’s Day event excites

GUW helps women all over the country with abuse related issues.

OFFERING support to abused women from all walks of life is what Get Up Women (GUW) is all about.

They also took the time to celebrate women’s strength. GUW, a non-profit organisation (NPO), hosted a get-together for all its members on Women’s Day (August 9) in Eikenhof.

The get-together was a celebration of their strength and commitment to helping women around the country. GUW’s founding members are Gigi White and Cleone Prodemos, who started the organisation with a purpose of bringing a solid network for women to connect and share their experiences.

There are women experiencing abuse from their husbands, brothers and sons on a daily basis and GUW has reached many of these victims and offered to counsel.

On Women’s Day, the women were spoiled with hot dogs, coffee, tattoos, activities and games. Men were also in attendance as they enjoyed their day at the mobile shooting range stall.

“Women’s Day is about celebrating success after hardships and prosecutions that women have experienced and how they have overcome them. Our organisation is not only based in the southern areas but is provincial as well. Different women bring different problems and in the organisation, we try and help them to overcome every challenge that they are facing respectively,” said Gigi.
