BREAKING NEWS: Grade 12 Learner at Diversity High dies after being hit by a car

The Gauteng Department of Education saddened by death of a Grade 12 Learner.

The Gauteng Department of Education has learned with shock and sadness, of the death of a Grade 12 learner at Diversity High School, who died after being knocked down by a car today, 24 July 2018.

According to information at deparment’s disposal, the said learner had just stepped out of the school bus and tried to cross the road when he was unfortunately hit by a car. An ambulance, metro police and parents of the learner were called to the scene. Subsequently, the learner was taken to hospital, where he later passed on.

Counselling has been arranged for all affected learners and educators. The department will also provide necessary support to the family.

“We take this time to send our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and the school community of the said learner, during this time of grief” said MEC Lesufi.

UPDATE: July 25, 8:00 am

Moffat View communication officer Captain Jeff Phora said they initially opened a case of reckless and negligence driving and they later received the message that the Grade 12 learner passed on at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital and the case was changed to culpable homicide. “The perpetrator will be summoned to court,” he said.
