Pensioners heed the call to renew Sassa cards

Several Sassa officials assisted pensioners with card renewal.

CPF MONDEOR precinct continues its act of kindness in assisting seniors to apply for their South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) government pensions as well as the renewal of their old cards.

Beneficiaries are required to swap their old cards for new ones before the end of September this year.

On July 17, Michelle Pelser and team facilitated a meeting with Sassa officials and 180 pensioners were assisted with card renewals at the Golden Falls Spur in Columbine Square.

However, all pensioners who required new applications were advised to visit Sassa offices as that could not be done during the meeting.

Several officials from Sassa were also present to ensure pensioners received adequate assistance before the deadline to renew their cards passed.

“We usually have two or three officials from Sassa on every other meeting but today we had six or more officials from Sassa and the post office to assist the pensioners with the renewal of their cards,” said Michelle Pelser from CPF Mondeor.

“The meeting today was very successful. We didn’t expect to have so many people in attendance but because of the renewals and the deadline drawing closer so many pensioners came for assistance and we are pleased to be helping them in all forms possible,” she added.

The next Sassa meeting will be held on August 4 at St Andrews Church at 9.30am and pensioners should bring their old Sassa card and identity card for assistance with renewals.
