Organic vegetables for the people of the South

Wisdom and Mpumi Edward from Turffontein own a small farm in Vanderbijlpark where they produce organic vegetables.

WISDOM and Mpumi Edward from Turffontein own a small farm in Vanderbijlpark where they produce organic vegetables.

The couple started their farming in 2013 with the inspiration of Wisdom’s mother who had a love for vegetables and only produced organic vegetables.

They have grown from strength to strength and are now employing four people who can now also provide food for their families. This growth enabled the couple to open a small vegetable shop in Turffontein which is called Uncle Wiz Fresh Produce.

Wisdom said: “I had six stores where I was selling clothes but, because I had always loved farming, my wife and I combined our savings and started this vegetable business. We produce only organic vegetables. We don’t use chemicals because I feel as if am robbing people of what’s real. We don’t use any fertilisers, people must know they can plant whatever they want to without using fertilisers.”

Wisdom and Mpumi share the dream of getting a tent to shelter their vegetables and also get a bigger land so they can continue to produce more organic vegetables. In the next five years, they would like to see more of their products being used in different provinces.
