Pensioners receives more assistance

All pensioners need to re-apply for their pensioner rebates before June 30.

DA Ward 23 Councillor Sarah Wissler recently organised a Pensioner Assistance Day for the elderly at Belem Restaurant, corner Vorster Avenue and Glen Road in Glenanda.

This was organised to assist the elderly with pensioner rebate applications and the Extended Social Package (ESP) with Sassa officials present to assist in this process.

“There were elderly people queuing at the restaurant from as early as 8am, which shows that there was a real need for this initiative since all pensioners need to re-apply for their pensioner rebates before this coming Saturday, June 30,” she said.

“If the application is not done by this date then rates will be levied without a rebate for the month of July, which will not be reversible as the rebate is only applied from the date of application.”

Residents were grateful for the assistance and Cllr Sarah Wissler and her team would like to thank Sassa and ESP officials who helped with making the application process easier for the pensioners.

She also extended her gratitude to the management and staff of Belem Restaurant for their patience and kindness with the pensioners.

“The owner of the restaurant even allowed us to use his printer and free Wi-Fi, in addition to the discounted breakfast and lunch for the elderly people. I am so grateful to you for your contribution to the pensioners,” she said.
