Solar energy to your homes

“This solar light is a nifty gadget that gives light and fits on top of a bottle neck.”

EIKENHOF Women’s Institute’s June meeting was attended by guest speaker professor John Ledger, who spoke about bringing solar power to homes.

It was an extremely interesting talk for the WI members as the rising costs of electricity will impact their lives.

John shared his knowledge of solar power with the group adding, “We have wonderful weather in South Africa most of the time and we should make use of solar power when and where we can.”

He explained solar power has come down considerably in South Africa but it is still relatively expensive to have solar panels fitted.

“For a normal household or especially for you ladies where most of you live alone or with your partner, pre-paid electricity is still the best way to go and works out so much cheaper than receiving an electricity account each month.”

He gave tips on how to save electricity and showed a new gadget, Solar Top.

“This is a nifty gadget that gives light and fits on top of a bottle neck. It retails at R150 and it’s guaranteed for a year. It’s available directly from me,” he said.

The next WI meeting will take place at St Andrew’s church hall, Burger Street, Suideroord, on Wednesday, July 11, at 9.30am. For more information please phone the president, Joy Boswell on 084 526 5857.
