THE Spur Schools Mountain Bike League, managed by Amarider, will host a three-day talent identification programme at Protea North Park, Soweto, from July 3 to 5.

Partnering with Soweto Cycling Club (SCC) and South African Schools Cycling (SASC) the aim will be to provide high school age group, lap format racing on single speed mountain bikes to the local community.

The event also carries the full support of Cycling South Africa and forms part of a concerted effort by the organisation to drive mass participation cycling opportunities for all communities.

The format for the three days involves three qualification sessions involving five to six schools per session over July 3 and 4 with qualifying schools returning on July 5 for a final event to crown the winning team.

Learners participate for their schools and this first session is aimed at high schools.

A short 1.5km track will be marked out on the park, and marshalled, to facilitate racing. Single speed mountain bikes and helmets will be provided. There is no timing, all results based on finishing position. The top two schools of each session will be invited to a final on the Thursday, where a champion school will be crowned.

Participation is free.
