Pensioners rebate applications before June 30

“Please bring your supporting documents and I’ll assist you with filling them in and I will personally submit them,” said Clr Wissler.

PLEASE note with the implementation of the new General Valuation Roll taking place on July 1, all pensioners need to re-apply for their Pensioner Rebates before June 30.

If the application is not done before this date then rates will be levied without a rebate for the month of July, this is not reversible as the rebate is only applied from the date of application.

Pensioners with properties valued below R2.5-million are eligible for pensioner rebates.

Conditions for pensioners between the ages of 60 and 69

Pensioners must be 60 years of age or older, own property and personally occupy the property. The property value must not exceed R2.5-m.

Pensioners dependent on a National Security Grant qualify for 100 per cent rebate on successful applications.

Pensioners who are not on a National Security Grant, but whose gross monthly income falls below R9 244 qualify for 100 per cent rebate on successful application.

Pensioners who are not on a National Security Grant, but whose gross monthly income is above R9 244 but less than R15 846 qualify for 50 per cent rebate on successful application.

In case of dual ownership, at least one of the owners must be 60 years of age or older.

The rebate is applicable for only one property should the applicant own more than one property.

Conditions for pensioners older than 70

Pensioners must be 70 years of age or older, own the property and personally occupy the property. The property value must not exceed R2.5-m.

Please take note of further conditions and supporting documents required, this information is on the rebate forms. Please note that there are different forms for each of the two age categories.

Printed copies of the form are available at the city’s Revenue Walk-in Centres.

Completed forms can be submitted at any of the city’s Revenue Walk-in Centres, Region F is Eureka House, Marlboro Road, Springfield, or Thuso House in Braamfontein.

Ward 23 councillor Sarah Wissler will be organising a pensioner assistance day at Belem Restaurant, corner of Vorster Avenue and Glen Road, Glenanda, on June 25 from 10am to 1pm.

“Please bring your supporting documents and I’ll assist you with filling them in and I will personally submit them,” said Wissler.

Belem Restaurant will also be offering pensioner discounts for those who attend the pensioner day, for breakfast and lunch.
