RECYCLE: Don’t trash our city, look after it

It is always important for residents to know exactly what they should be recycling.

WITH recycling becoming compulsory for every Joburg resident beginning July 1, Ward 23 councillor Sarah Wissler has urged residents to take heed of the call as recycling bags will be availed to make the process easier.

Under the Pikitup initiative, the new recycling scheme will give you a bag which you will put next to your bin on collection day she said.

Through the Separation at Source household recycling programme, Pikitup provides residents in selected S@S serviced areas with recycling bags on a weekly basis.

The bags are collected on a weekly basis. For areas not serviced through S@S, recyclables can be dropped off at Pikitup Garden Sites, found across the city.

Below is a guideline list of some recyclable materials residents can use in determining how to effectively separate their waste.

1. Paper (newspapers, magazines, books, mail and cardboard)

2. Plastic (bottles/tubs)

3. Metal (cans, foil/trays)

4. Glass (containers, bottles/glasses)

5. Tetra pack and clothes.
