Balm of Africa – care for the aged

On the day, the Department of Health screened the elderly for free, checking high blood pressure among other things.

BALM of Africa – care for the aged, was officially launched at Bellavista on June 2.

This non-profit organisation wants to take care of the elderly citizens of the South. Senior citizens aged 60 and above came in numbers on the day to register.

Kabelo Mokowe, treasurer of Balm of Africa, explained to the COURIER that there is a need for an organisation that helps the elderly.

“We are here to take care of the elderly citizens. The Department of Health and Department of Social Development are on board. As it is the launch, we are collecting all the data. Going forward we will be using the hall here in Bellavista to feed them and keep them fit with some activities,” he said.

The committee of Balm of Africa consists of young and old members in order to cater for all generations.

“We are an organisation of different ages because if we tackle the youth issues, we will be able in turn to help the old people. Sometimes you find out the young people take advantage of the elderly,” noted Kabelo.
