OLD Sassa cards can still be used until September 30 this year and the new Sassa cards are already available since May.
Existing beneficiaries should have already had their cards changed or be in the process of it. Bedridden and frail beneficiaries will be provided with the contact number to request for a home visit for the changing of the card.
The change of the old Sassa card to the new Sassa card for beneficiaries withdrawing their grants through banks ATMs and shops will take place as follows: June – Older persons and persons with a disability and July and August – children’s grants.
The change of the old Sassa card to the new card for beneficiaries withdrawing their grants at Pay-Points (community halls, tribal authorities, other community structures) will happen at the place where they receive their grant in July and August. Beneficiaries who receive their grant through their private bank accounts do not need to get the new Sassa card. These beneficiaries will continue to receive their grant in their private bank accounts.
Benefits of the new Sassa card include no illegal deductions, three free cash withdrawals at shops, one free cash withdrawal per month from a post office branch, all purchases (swipes) at shops are free – there is no fee charged for it as well as the new Sassa card is EMV compliant (Eurocard, Mastercard and Visa).
