CHILDREN from the Jackson’s Drift Informal Settlement received 300 handmade blankets from the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day organisation to keep them warm this winter.

67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day is a movement that has supported thousands across the country through knitting, sewing or crocheting blankets for distribution to those in need on Mandela Day, July 18.

Each and every one of the 300 children who attended the handover managed to walk away with a blanket.

MY OWN: This boy’s smile after receiving his blanket says it all – happy to have his own blanket to wrap up warmly this winter.

Child Reach Programme founder René Parker expressed gratitude for the donation saying it couldn’t have come at a better time than now.

“I would like to send love and appreciation to Carolyn Stein, Lyton Lefevre and Jaco Lotter from the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day organisation for the beautiful donation of 300 homemade blankets,” she said.

SPREAD THE WARMTH: Some of the children cosy up in their new blankets.

“Our delighted children wrapped these blankets around their shoulders with the happiest smiles on their faces and this was truly an amazing day.”
