Web Africa pays homage to the elderly

The assistance we receive from different individuals and organisations proves that we are not alone in this journey.

FOR Duncan House a donation of R10 000 came as a wonderful surprise – especially since the donation will go towards the organisation’s electricity bill. Web Africa visited the home on May 30 to make the donation.

Duncan House in Eikenhof is a home facility owned by husband and wife Graham and Jeanette Duncan who, over the years, have been taking in grannies to care and shelter them. They currently house and care for 13 grannies.

“We are grateful that we were given the opportunity to make a donation of R10 000 towards their electricity bill and having seen the good work that the people at Duncan House do, we were extremely happy to have been afforded the opportunity to assist them,” said Web Africa’s senior accounts manager, Candice Warmback.

Ward 23 councillor Sarah Wissler hailed Duncan House for a job well done in taking care of old people within the community and was happy to help them on every level possible.

THANK YOU: Kim Kotze (Gansra), Lianne Badenherst (Gansra), Ward 23 councillor Sarah Wissler, Candice Warmback (WebAfrica) and Jeanette Duncan.

“Jeannette and Graham are doing a great job and I have been working with Glenvista and New South Residents Association (Gansra) as well as other members of the community, to help and assist this house with electricity and other rates and I’m also working with the City to help get their rates and taxes overturned,” she said.

It is also important to note that recently Keller Williams and Partners also provided their services to the house through offering thorough cleaning and by preparing breakfast and lunch.

Jeanette said she was humbled by the continued support she receives from the community because donations help to keep the house running, regardless of the current economic situation where living costs keep skyrocketing.

“Having people come in and support us like this makes a world of difference. It proves that we are not alone in this journey and we thank each and every individual or organisations that keep supporting our cause to take care of the old,” she said.

CARE FOR THE ELDERLY: Councillor Wissler poses for a picture with Elsie Heydenrych (turning 100 years on June 19) and Stella Sandham, who is also under the care of Duncan House.

Amongst the grannies at Duncan House is Elsie Heydenrch, who turns 100 on the 19th of June. She has been living under the care of Duncan House for the past nine years.
