Awareness campaign at The Glen Shopping Centre by Moffat View SAPS
“It is important for the community to know how to identify bogus City of Johannesburg employees and contractors."
ON Saturday, May 19, an awareness campaign was held at The Glen Shopping Centre by Moffat View SAPS in conjunction with the City of Johannesburg and its various role players, including Joburg Water, City Parks and Johannesburg Metro Police Department.
The awareness campaign informed residents to be cautious when City of Johannesburg employees and contractors ask to be let onto their premises.
“It is important for the community to know how to identify bogus City of Johannesburg employees and contractors. It seems to be happening far more often that residents fall prey to this,” said Lucky Sindane, spokesperson for the City of Johannesburg.
According to Captain TJ Phora, SAPS Moffat View corporate communications, the suspects use this modus operandi to commit various crimes within the South of Johannesburg policing precinct and the surrounding areas.
Pamphlets and leaflets were handed out to shoppers and community members, informing them of what identification to ask for and things to look out for that may give the suspects away.
Ward 56 councillor Michael Crichton was also in attendance at the awareness campaign.
“Residents need to be more informed on what to look out for. This kind of campaign is educational and I’m sure many bogus City of Johannesburg employees will no longer get away with committing crimes,” he said.
