Conversations with strangers: A sales assistant

Family values keeps him grounded.

THE CHRONICLE / COURIER recently bumped into Lungile Maqakelana, a sales assistant at Sportsmans Warehouse at The Glen Shopping Mall, who took time over his lunch break to chat with us.

Born and raised in Tsakane, Lungile moved to Rossenteville where he is currently living alone to pursue his career.

As a quiet and reserved guy, Lungile takes much pride in his job to serve the community. Much of his time is spent at work.

“After looking at my work schedule, someone may think it’s too hectic but I believe it can only get hectic if you do not enjoy what you are doing. My job is my top priority and I do anything within my power to keep it safe because my livelihood as a young bachelor depends on it,” he said.

During his spare time, Lungile enjoys playing soccer to keep fit and hanging out with his friends.

“I always capitalise on my off days as this is the best time for me to reflect on my life and aspirations. I fix the house and catch up on many other different aspects of life as well, which I always miss out on while I am on duty.”

It is also important to know that as a healthy eating and living ‘freak’, he hopes to see more South Africans pursuing a healthier way of life for the betterment of their inner beings.

His life is grounded on family values. Lungile believes his six younger siblings should see him as a role model; hence, he continuously strives to be the best he can possibly be through hard work and dedication to his daily job.

He hopes to advance his education and continue to support his family.

Thank you, Lungile for taking time off during your short break to chat with us.
