Car guard turned musician in Bassonia

I have always loved music and singing and I’m hoping to make a name for myself one day.

PAPY Kitenge (37), who plays his guitar in Comaro View Shopping Centre to the delight of many shoppers, spoke to the Comaro CHRONICLE about how his music is taking him places.

“Don’t you remember me?” he asked “I used to be a car guard at this very same shopping centre. I have always loved music and singing and I’m hoping to make a name for myself one day.” Papy is married to Giselle. They have three children and live in the South.

When we chatted with customers in the shopping centre, they said they really enjoy Papy’s music and singing. “He makes a dull day bright and we look forward to listening to him,” said a woman shopper.

Papy is trying to get his first CD released and is busy putting his second one together. “It costs quite a bit to do this, so I’m saving money to make this a reality.”

Papy (Papy Kitenge Entertainment) plays at weddings, birthdays and all special events and is looking forward to more business in the future. “One thing is for sure, if you enjoy doing what you do, you’ll be a success…and I love what I do.”

Running out of a shop with her mom hot on her heels, Charlotte Voget (3) ran to Papy with a R10 note to put into his collection box. “Here Papy, this is for you.”

“Charlotte adores Papy and always asks if we can come here and see him,” said Charlotte’s mom.
