TODAY is Tooth Fairy day, Chocolate Soufflé Day and Pink Day.
Tooth Fairy Day
At one time or another, all of us have been visited by the tooth fairy. So, it should come as no surprise that somewhere along the line, Tooth Fairy Day was born. The tooth fairy herself (or himself; as the verdict is still out on whether this spirit is male or female) has been around since at least the middle ages although the exact origins are still unknown. In fact, the fairy may have just been a means to calm a child that was undergoing the strange experience of losing a tooth (after all, we have all been there). Still, Tooth Fairy Day is a date that is designed to pay homage to this generous spirit that is known to leave treats or coins underneath our pillow. Interestingly enough, the exact date of celebration is under conjecture; some claiming it falls in February while others state that it is held in August. This actually makes a bit of sense, for we have yet to find a way to leave a coin or a snack for the fairy, as we are not even sure if she (or he) has a pillow.
Chocolate Soufflé Day
Though cheese soufflés may be better known, everyone with a sweet tooth will prefer a chocolate soufflé instead. The recipe for soufflé is thought to originate in La Cusinier Moderne, by Vincent La Chappell, published as long ago as 1742. A soufflé is a type of cake made from a custard base and egg whites beaten to a soft peak. It can then be flavoured as desired. Notoriously tricky to make, a chocolate soufflé is certain to impress your guests if you can pull it off – why not celebrate Chocolate Soufflé Day by inviting friends over for dinner and ending the meal with a delicious pot of chocolate deliciousness? They are well-known for collapsing soon after removal from the oven so consider topping your soufflés with fruit or plenty of sauce to hide the inevitable.
Pink Day
Bullying is a growing problem in the world today, and every year we hear more and more incidents coming up of bullying in schools everywhere. Bullying doesn’t stop in school, though, it extends out into the world outside of school and even into the virtual world of the internet. Bullying doesn’t tend to follow any kind of rhyme or reason, it’s merely the exertion of power over those who are weaker or stand out as unusual. Pink Day is a day dedicated to beating the bullies and breaking the cycle that creates and perpetuates this damaging behaviour in schools. Pink Day was established in 2007 after a pair of students, David Shepherd and Travis Price, saw one of their fellow students at Central Kings Rural High School being bullied for no other reason than that they were wearing a pink shirt. In a stroke of brilliance, these two got together and decided to show support for the student and take a stand against bullying by getting everyone at their school to wear a pink shirt the next day. Pink Day was created to stomp out all bullying and spread understanding, and it’s a concept spreading throughout the world. Start the day by picking out your favourite pink garment and putting it on, especially if you’re a male-bodied person. Get out there and take a stand against bigotry wherever you find it by making sure the offenders know their calls will not go unanswered. If you see people getting bullied or harassed, be sure to walk up to them and help them out, don’t let them think they’re alone in the world. Pink Day is a day to stand up against the injustice of harassment and bullying, especially against minorities and those of the LGBTQ community. If you’ve ever been bullied, you know how important it can be to have someone stand up for you. On Pink Day, you can stand up for everyone with a simple wardrobe choice.
