Authors do their part at Reading Roadshow
Jann Weeratunga’s books demonstrate that some disabilities are more obvious than others and shows how much we can do, rather than what we can’t do.

WINCHESTER resident and author Jann Weeratunga recently supported the Assumption Convent School’s first Reading Roadshow with her book series Polly’s Piralympics.

The roadshow took place on February 10 at the school in Germiston and several local Indie authors gathered to support the school. The headmistress, Debby Zambon, was more than eager to host the authors as part of their open day celebrations to emphasise to parents the importance the school places on reading.
“These girls devour books, they are copious readers and it was fantastic being able to share our books with them. The emphasis on the day was to show learners, present and future, that authors are real people, approachable and you can talk to them, ask questions about their books and let them know what you think of their books,” said Weeratunga.
Present on the day along with Weeratunga were Bhubesikazi Sibisi, Corné Groenewald, Christina Harman, Conny Oberrauter, Dolores Oldjohn, Fatuma Abdullah, Hinesh Vithal, Kim Hunter, Leandri Geldenhuys, Robbie Cheadle, Sabina Lehmacher, Soraya Hendricks and Tanya de Villiers.

The Reading Roadshow is available to any school in Gauteng. The authors present their books either through reading, plays or activities for the children and put life into books while reading to children.
