A revamp of the home will help them continue helping their patients. Also in clothing their patients, mainly females and males.

AREYENG Residence Home for the mentally ill in Tedderfield, Eikenhof is in need of assistance for its residents and the premises.

This is a home for 40 residents and 16 staff members. It is situated at 19 Cyfret Avenue. The NGO was founded in 2004 by Patricia Maré and it caters to the needs of mentally ill patients, creating a home environment for them because some of the patients do not have any known family.

Volunteer and fund-raiser Julian de Vos, who is also a patient there, wants the people of the South to know that despite all the negative publicity of the mental institutions lately, Areyeng Residence is still the best place for the mentally ill.

“I can say we are a great institution and we want to continue to take care of the mentally ill patients. We want to fix this place and ultimately work with other NGOs. Networking is very important so that we can ensure that all institutions live up to their mandate to take care of the mentally ill patients.

“According to our financial audit done by the Department of Health, we now need to upgrade according to the department’s rules and regulations. Most of our patients have been deserted by their families and that is why we try to make a home away from home for them,” explained Julian.
