Celebrating the holiday season by giving back
“Thank you for blessing us with the opportunity to present this service to Mall of the South. The funds raised will help us with our literacy and community upliftment project.”
MALL of the South celebrated the holidays with a variety of festive activities and gave back to the community.
Shoppers had their gifts beautifully wrapped by The Edu-Care Foundation which, with your selfless and humble support, managed to raise over R53 000.
Edu-Care Foundation marketing director Daleen Havenga said: “Thank you for blessing us with the opportunity to present this service to Mall of the South. The funds raised will help us with our literacy and community upliftment project, and we’ll also be donating some groceries to the Second Avenue informal settlement in Alberton.”
Shoppers and tenants were further entertained by the mischievous comical festive parade, Toys R Us’ Geoffrey the Giraffe and the harmonic festive sounds of the South African Police Service (SAPS) band. The festivities were initiated by Ward 23 Councillor Sarah Wissler at the Christmas tree lights ceremony.
Wissler further thanked Mall of the South for the clothes and accessories donation, comprising unclaimed items from the ‘lost and found’ facility. The items were donated to the Disaster Management Centre and will be utilised should there be a disaster in Johannesburg.
Mall of the South centre management further ‘shared the joy of giving’ by participating in the Santa shoebox project, in which shoeboxes were packed with goodies for children. Hester Smith, Mall of the South centre manager, said: “It was a pleasure to be part of this worthy cause; we thoroughly enjoyed packing the boxes. The thought of making a child smile is absolutely priceless.” Centre management sponsored over R8 000 worth of items for this project.
